Inland Sea is another five star dive sight in the west of Gozo in the place known as Dwejra Point. It resembles a lake but there is a tunnel which allows sea water to enter and exit.Boat trip oparate daily all year round (weather permitting) exploring the caves of the area.
The dive commencing on the left side of the cave (photo above) after a small snorkel swim.Best is to initiaise the dive on the left hand side of the wall due to the boats passing on the right hand side. The tunnel is about 70 metres long and the dept starts from 5 metres and increases gradually to 26 metres at the far end of the pebble bottomed cave. The vis to the outside of the cave is spectacular (above left). When reaching the end of the tunnel one can choose to go either left or right. The depth goes to around 6o metresWe choose the 20-30 metres range..Most do prefer the right side as there are more fish, schools of dampsel fish and sardines are quite common hear as well as other fish like parrot fish, dentex to name a few. When reaching half tank we go back to the tunnel.Coming back we take the 10-15 metre depth.Care has to be taken to never surface in the cave due to many boats passing.Dont be scared though as sound travels quite fast and most of the time boats are farther away than you thing. The safety stop is done at 6 metres where we commenced the dive and best surfacing in the lake.
